Your 1.5 min Guide to JobMaker

The government’s new JobMaker scheme is open for registrations so it’s the perfect time to check out our super quick guide and see if this scheme is right for your business. So without further ado, let’s get into it.

What is JobMaker?

JobMaker is a scheme to reward businesses who hire additional employees aged 16-35 years. If you’re an eligible employer, you can get the JobMaker Hiring Credit for each additional employee, aged 16-35 years, hired between 7 October 2020 and 6 October 2021.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for JobMaker, you must tick the following boxes:

  • For the first 6 months of the JobMaker scheme, you have hired additional eligible employees,

  • Have an ABN,

  • Be registered for PAYG withholding,

  • Be up-to-date with lodgement obligations for the previous 2 years, and

  • Report payroll through STP.

Is my employee eligible?

For your employee to be eligible for the scheme, they need to have commenced employment between 7 October 2020 and 6 October 2021, were aged 16-35 years at the time they commenced employment, and have worked an average of 20 hours for each whole week they were employed by you during the JobMaker period. They also have to have received the Parenting Payment, Youth Allowance, or JobSeeker Payment for at least 28 consecutive days in the 84 days before they commenced employment.

How do I get started?

If you’re eligible, you can register for JobMaker from 6 December 2020. Head here for all the details on eligibility and how to register.

How much do I get?

If you qualify, as an employer you could receive up to $200 a week for each additional employee aged 16-29 years (inclusive) and $100 a week for each additional employee aged 30-35 years (inclusive). There’s a handy payment calculator here if you want to find out how much you could get.

When do I get it?

You’ll get the payments following each JobMaker period (see below for exact dates).
