Top 5 Working From Home Tips

Over the past few weeks, a lot of us have suddenly been thrust into the Working From Home world. The initial novelty of showing up to work in your pyjamas might have worn off by now, so here are 5 easy tips to make Working From Home work for you.

Make an office space - and make it somewhere you enjoy being.

  • If possible, find a well lit area

  • Make it out of the way of the rest of the household (especially if you’ve got kids!)

  • Get a comfortable chair and a clutter free desk area

Use tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams to keep communications open.

  • Create different channels in Slack for different tasks or projects, and make sure you’ve got one for general chatter and conversation

  • Download the apps for Slack and Microsoft Teams to use it from your phone even when you’re doing the weekly grocery run

Zoom, Google Hangouts, Slack and Whatsapp can help with face to face communication.

  • A daily morning meeting to check in with everybody is a good idea to keep things on track

  • A casual end of the week video call is great for wrapping things up

Write up a daily plan and list of goals to keep you on track.

  • Sometimes you can feel like you don’t have a direction, so creating a plan for yourself can stop you from procrastinating or getting distracted

  • Ticking off a list of goals each day can make you feel accomplished and help to prioritise your tasks

Schedule in regular breaks to give yourself time away from your screen.

  • Go for a walk (even if it’s just around your house) to stretch out your body

  • Have a cup of tea and a snack

  • Check in with anyone else in the house

From the team at Connective Accounting, we hope you and your family are doing well in these uncertain times. We’re all in this together and we hope things will return to normal soon!
